Clicks have a comforting property: they arrive as integers. They can be sorted, compared, and put on a weekly slide. But a click is not necessarily attention, and attention is not necessarily interest.
What the number misses
Attention has duration, quality, and context. Someone may pause with a piece of work because it helped them understand a problem. Or because the page was confusing. The number alone does not tell you which.
A metric is most helpful when it keeps a question alive, not when it pretends to end one.
The aim is not a perfect attention score. It is a better conversation about whether the work is genuinely being noticed, understood, and remembered.
